Our rules and programs emphasize the importance of respect for self and others. Students learn about good citizenship, accepting responsibility, setting goals, and the importance of effort and honesty. We stress the importance of making good choices, learning from our mistakes, and doing our best in everything we do.

The strategies used to teach and practice interpersonal skills and good citizenship include:

• Building expectations posted throughout the building -- LEO is our school mascot who watches all students -- Leo has his eye on you!
• Pledges of Respect -- Students discuss, learn and sign pledges that are recited during morning exercises.
• We stress the importance of Choices, Choices, Choices:

  • Stop, Think, Make a Good Choice!
  • Students are encouraged to make good choices before acting and to take responsibility for their actions.
  • Students are given the opportunity to evaluate their choices and modify actions.
  • Students develop plans to prevent or resolve conflict.
  • Each student sets personal goals.
• We teach our students how to Talk it Out:

  • Stop -- Cool off.
  • Talk and listen.
  • Think of ways to solve the problem.
  • Choose the idea you both like.
  • Make a plan. Go for it!
• Standing up and speaking out against bullying:

  • School rules against bullying
  • The importance of telling or being an empowered bystander is a building-side theme
• LEO Award
  • LEO is the name of the Loomis Leopard.
  • LEO represents our school code or set of expectations that you see on posters throughout the school.
  • At the end of each marking period, LEO's helpers (the Loomis Staff) help LEO give recognition awards for effort, respectful behavior, and outstanding performance.
