Back to School!    It is a pleasure to welcome each new and returning student to Marple Newtown High School.  In a few weeks, the 2008-2009 school year will begin.  As summer comes to a close, we prepare for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.  In order to make the opening as smooth as possible, there are some administrative details to complete.  The following are important points for the start of school:

  • Student Schedule– please call your counselor if you have any questions.
  • Physical Education Uniforms - can be purchased at B&E Sportswear. Cost is $10.00   for the shirt and $10.00 for the shorts. Please contact B&E directly with any questions –      610-328-9266.  B&E is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, September 6th, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Edline Account Registration – all parents and students are encouraged to register for Edline access.  All e-mail announcements will be made through Edline.  In addition, it is a great way to keep up with your child’s grades in progress.  For the parents of upperclassmen and incoming ninth grade students, activation codes and directions will be mailed home shortly after the school year begins.  Please note that incoming ninth grade students and their parents will need to reactivate their accounts at the high school.
  • Absences and Tardies – parents are reminded to submit a written note to the Attendance Office within 48 hours in order for your child’s absence or lateness to be excused.
  • Emergency Cards - will be distributed the first day of school and should be completed and returned to school as soon as possible.  In order to go on field trips, students must have current emergency cards on file.
  • Graphing Calculator – All students are required to have a graphing calculator (TI-84 recommended).  Students should expect to use these calculators throughout their four years of high school.

The enclosed forms should be returned to your homeroom teacher during the first week of school:

1) Responsible Use of Information Technology Resources consent form (your child will not
have computer access until this form is returned), 2) Photographs & Visual Images form, 3) Integrated Pest Management form (if applicable), and 4) Parking Permit (if applicable).

On Tuesday, September 2nd, you will report to homeroom by 7:45 a.m.  During homeroom, you will receive emergency cards, locker assignment, student agenda and other materials.  After homeroom, all students will follow their regular schedule of classes.  This is a full day of school with lunch service.  Dismissal time is 2:35 p.m. with bus transportation for those students who require a bus.  In addition, there will be no band, chorus, or orchestra rehearsal on the first day of school.

All technical school students will report to either the Aston or Folcroft campus after third period.  Bus transportation will be available for those technical school students who use bus service.  Technical school students will be bused every day to Aston or Folcroft beginning on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.  All technical school students will be served lunch at their technical school.

Once again, welcome back to all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.  I am eager to welcome each member of the Class of 2012 and all new students to Marple Newtown High School.  I thank you all for your support and look forward to an exciting and successful school year.

Cordially, Ray McFall
