To Potential Sponsor,
Please take a moment to review the following information on the Marple Newtown High School Senior Project.
The Senior Project is a required senior course taken during the last three weeks of the second semester. The Project offers the student a chance to become involved in a community enterprise while earning school credit. The Senior Project provides a valuable opportunity for a student to learn outside the classroom by experiencing the responsibilities and expectations of the working world. You, through your involvement, assign work to the student and offer professional observation and guidance. The student learns to adapt to the structure of your profession and provides assistance to you and your staff.
If you decide to sponsor the student, you will be asked to create a suitable working environment for the student, by directing and supervising the duties the student will perform during the Project. In creating a working environment for the student, I ask that you include activities that provide the student with a meaningful insight into your profession. I realize factors such as the Project's time constraints, lack of student's knowledge and skills, confidentiality, and legal issues will limit the scope of appropriate student activities. At this time the student will share with you the goals, which he/she has developed for the Project. Complete project regulations can be obtained from the student, from the web listed below, or by directly contacting me.
The Senior Project commences on May 19, 2008 and concludes on June 6, 2008 with the student working a total of seventy-eight (78) hours during this period. Hours spent with the Faculty Advisor, presenting the Oral Presentation, and at school required activities are included in the total hours. Time spent commuting to and from the sponsor site is not included in the total hours. The student will not be paid for the Project. A student will fail the Senior Project if it is revealed that he/she is receiving payment for participation.
You will grade the student at the end of the Project based on various components which will represents 25% of the total grade of the Project.
Initially, we ask that you monitor the activities of the student and:
Ø Help the student design a work schedule allowing for the eighty-four hours.
Ø Introduce the student to fellow employees.
Ø Advise the student of your expectations regarding appearance, attendance, attitude, quality of work, and responsibilities.
Throughout the Project, you will:
Ø Verify student attendance when contacted by the Faculty Advisor.
Ø Advise and direct the student as needed in all job-related areas.
Ø Advise the Faculty Advisor immediately of any concerns or changes that may arise throughout the Project.
The Faculty Advisor will follow the progress of the student by weekly meetings with the student to review the student’s journal and will make one telephone call to the sponsor during the project. During the third week of the Project, the student is required to give an Oral Presentation. Upon completion of the Oral Presentation, students are required to complete any remaining hours of the Project if necessary.
At the end of the Project, please promptly complete the evaluation and return it to the student who will present it to the Evaluation Committee prior to the Oral Presentation.
On behalf of the student, faculty, and administration of the Marple Newtown School District , we extend our sincere gratitude for your involvement in the Senior Project.
Sincerely,
Robert J. McCormick
