December 16, 2008

Initial presentation of the Senior Project given on Alumni Day with input from previous senior class participants 

February 4, 2009

The Senior Project rules are explained, project folders are distributed, and the procedure for the selection of a Faculty Advisor and a sponsor are reviewed.

February 10, 2009

Parent meeting to explain the Senior Project.

February 11, 2009

The Authorization/Release for Participation/Faculty Advisor Selection form is due and must be returned to any of the following teachers: Dr. Itzko, Mr. McCormick, or Mrs. Ricks.  For each school day late this form is late, one (1) point will be deducted from the student's final grade.

February 5 to March 30, 2009

In the Selection Phase, the student selects a Faculty Advisor, develops the Senior Project goals and proposal, and contacts potential sponsors in the area of interest.  After finding a suitable sponsor, the student and sponsor create a suitable working environment for the Project, which includes the duties and responsibilities that the student will perform during the Project.  In creating a working environment for the student, it is key for the sponsor to include activities that provide the student with a meaningful insight into his/her chosen area.  At this time, the student will share with the sponsor the goals, which he/she has developed for the Project.

March 17, 18, and 19, 2009           Consultation/Early Submission Days

For students who have concerns or questions relating to the Senior Project, the Senior Project Committee will be available to meet with students from 8 AM to 11 AM to address these issues.  Additionally at this time, students who have completed their Senior Project Proposal will have the opportunity for early submission of their proposal.  Students who submit their proposals early will have the required number of Senior Project hours reduced according to the following format; March 17 reduced by six (6) hours, March 18 reduced by four (4) hours, and March 19 reduced by two (2) hours.

March 31, 2009

The Senior Project Proposal/Sponsor Agreement form is submitted to the Faculty Advisor for approval by the Senior Project Advisory Committee.  For each school day late this form is late, one (1) point will be deducted from the student's final grade.

April 24, 2009

The Faculty Advisor notifies the student of acceptance of Senior Project proposal.  If the Faculty Advisor does not contact the student, the proposal is approved.  If not approved, the student will consult with the Advisory Committee and resubmit the proposal.

April 28, 2009

Final meeting to explain the procedures for the journal, the outline, and Oral Presentation.

April 29 to May 8, 2009

The student will schedule Oral Presentation date with appropriate Advisory Committee member based on desired date of presentation.  If you want to give an Oral Presentation on June 2 contact Dr. Itzko, June 3 contact Mrs. Ricks, June 4 contact Mr. Andrews, and June 5 contact Mr. McCormick.

May 15, 2009   Last day of class for seniors.

May 18, 2009

The student starts the Project under the guidance of the sponsor with Faculty Advisor contacting the sponsor at least once per week.  The student records daily experiences of Project in a journal that is presented in weekly meetings with the Faculty Advisor.  The student will use the journal to develop an outline that expresses how the Project helped them achieve his/her goals and will be invaluable to the student in preparation for the outline and the Oral Presentation.

May 18 to 22, 2009

The Faculty Advisor contacts the sponsor to discuss the student’s progress in the Project and the student meets with the Faculty Advisor to review the first week’s journal.  Five points will be deducted from the student's final grade for each missed meeting.

May 26 to May 29, 2009

The student meets with the Faculty Advisor to review the second week’s journal and to discuss the upcoming outline and Oral Presentation.  Five points will be deducted from the student's final grade for each missed meeting.

June 2 to 5, 2009

Oral Presentation is given before the Evaluation Committee.  Before the Oral Presentation, the student must submit his/her journal, sponsor evaluation, student/parent questionnaire, and an outline of the Oral Presentation to the Senior Project Committee located in the Library.

June 8, 2009

Oral Presentations for students who were approved in advance by Mr. McCormick.
