pawDennis Reardon, Athletic Director

pawAbout Us: Marple Newtown High School is a member of the Central League and PIAA District 1.

pawImportant information for student athletes and their families:

In the past, Marple Newtown High School had an awards night specifically for athletics.  In order to meld the profile of our student athletes and their accomplishments with the entire school community, this year’s prestigious athletic awards will be presented at the Tiger Recognition Night on May 13, 2009.  All of the Marple Newtown High School’s prestigious honors in terms of academics, department awards, band and athletics will be presented within this format.  Due to that fact, there will be some changes to the types of awards that are presented by the athletic department.  An invitation will be sent home to each student and their respective families requesting their presence at Tiger Recognition Night if they are to receive such an award.

pawNews & Events:

  • Congratulations to the members of The Mens' Track Team on their selection as the winners of The Central League Sportsmanship Award for Spring Track for 2009.

  • Attention College-Bound Athletes - On January 26, 2009, the Marple Newtown High School Athletic Department will host a college ready seminar for student athletes and their parents.  This seminar will be run by Shawn Pender, bio attached, in coordination with All Star Baseball Academy.  We are very excited to be able to provide this format for our student athletes as they navigate their way towards college.  Shawn has had a tremendous amount of experience at the collegiate and professional level.  He looks to share his insight with the Marple Newtown Community. The seminar will be held at 7 pm in the high school auditorium, free of charge.  Please encourage many to attend this informative session.

pawFootball Team wins Sportsmanship Award!  Congratulations go out to Ray Gionta, his staff and his players for being selected to receive the sportsmanship award for the Central League this past season.  I believe this is the 4th time they have won this honor since Ray has been our coach.

From my perspective, this would have to be their finest achievement in regards to sportsmanship.  To start the season 0-5 with key injuries and allow a number of talented sophomores to get their feet wet at the varsity level, then finish 6-6 speaks volumes about the job done by our entire staff.  At no point were kids allowed to give up or make excuses for their play.  Yet they persevered and enjoyed success at the end of the season.  This is a direct result in the coaches readjusting the way they handled their team this year.  They did what good coaches do:  adapt their teaching techniques and strategies to meet the needs of the current team.
