PROMOTION (MIDDLE SCHOOL)

To be admitted to the Marple Newtown Senior High School a student must pass Math, English, Social Studies, and Science in the eighth grade.

Failed subjects in any of the above areas must be made up in one of the following ways:

  • Summer School.
  • Pre-approved alternative program.

MARPLE NEWTOWN HIGH SCHOOLPROMOTION POLICY

Marple Newtown Senior High students are expected to take a minimum of 30 class periods per week per semester. Students must also comply with attendance and credit requirements for promotion from one grade to the next.

In order to be promoted from Freshman (9th grade) to Sophomore status (10th grade) with all the rights and responsibilities pertaining thereunto, a student must attain passing grades (70-100) in at least 6 credits.

In order to be promoted from Sophomore (10th grade) to Junior status (11th grade) with all the rights and responsibilities pertaining thereunto a student must attain passing grades (70-100) in at least 12 credits.

In order to be promoted from Junior status (11 grade) to Senior status (12th grade) with all the rights and responsibilities pertaining thereunto a student must attain passing grades (70-100) in at least 17 credits.

RESTORATION POLICY

Students at Marple Newtown High School may make-up courses following this protocol.

  1. Students must attend an accredited summer school, or;
  2. If attendance at an accredited summer school is not possible, then the course will be rescheduled in a subsequent academic year, or;
  3. If either of these options is not possible then the student, in conjunction with his/her counselor, must submit a request to the Principal or his designee for approval to make up the course either through tutoring according to district guidelines or an approved correspondence program. This plan must include the reason(s) why summer school or rescheduling are not possible. Students who choose tutoring must take and pass Marple Newtown’s mid-term and final exams before school re-opens in September in order to receive credit for the course. A student who takes an approved correspondence course must take the final exam which is offered by that program. The final exam must be given at Marple Newtown High School under the supervision of a faculty member or administrator. The maximum grade that will be recorded on a student’s transcript is a 76.
