STUDENT SCHEDULES

The ability, achievement, and interest of the student all have a significant bearing on academic performance. In English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Languages, students will be assigned to the class in which the professional staff feels they can best succeed and maximize their potential.

Students in grades 10-12 with high scholastic attainment may apply to enroll in honors or advanced placement classes.  Honors classes will typically differ from regular classes in pace, breadth, and depth.  The Advanced Placement Program presents college level coursework in the high school.  The assignment of a student to a given level will be made by teachers and counselors who are in a position to evaluate the student's ability and performance. Parents may request a review of placement through the Guidance Department.

We have devised a process whereby a student’s requests are reviewed and revised by each student, his/her teachers, counselor, and parent. The completed course request form represents firm course selections.

pawCURRICULUM LEVELS

Advanced Placement- appropriate for students who intend to attend college and desire a more challenging and rigorous course of study.  All students enrolled in AP courses are required to take the College Board’s Advanced Placement Exam.

Honors - appropriate for students who intend to attend college and desire a more challenging and rigorous course of study.

College Preparatory- appropriate for all students who intend to attend college.

Concepts- appropriate for students who intend to continue their education or immediately enter the work force.

No changes to a student’s course requests
will be considered after
July 18, 2008

Requests to change course level or to withdraw from a course once classes have begun will not be considered until the conclusion of the first marking period.  In the case of a course level change, the first marking period grade will follow the student to the new class.  Transcripts and report cards will reflect either WP-withdraw passing or WF-withdraw failing.
