Commonly
asked questions about Renaissance
1. What is Renaissance?
Renaissance is an opportunity for all students to be recognized and rewarded for academic achievements, commendable attendance, and a clean discipline record.
2. How does a student make Renaissance?
A student qualifies for Renaissance when the following criteria are met: 80 or above GPA, no discipline record, no more than 2 excused absences and 2 excused latenesses, and 3 early dismissals per marking period. And your Emergency Medical Card must be on file in the nurse’s office.
3. If I don’t make Renaissance this marking period do I have another chance?
Absolutely! That’s the beauty of Renaissance! Your current marking period performance determines your membership next marking period. Thus, a student can lose his/her membership as well.
4. How do I know if I made Renaissance?
A few days after report cards are distributed, a preliminary list is posted for student review.
5. Where is the preliminary Renaissance list posted?
The preliminary list is posted in three locations:
- In the library window
- In Mr. Reardon’s office window in the rear lobby
- On the wall across from Mrs. Rich’s office door on the 2 nd floor.
6. How will I know the list is posted?
There is an announcement made via morning announcements for four days, serving as a reminder to check the list.
7. What if I did not hear the announcements in homeroom?
Announcements are always in print and are available in the main office and library. Announcements are also on the high school link of the school district website. Announcements are also scrolled on the TV’s throughout the school day. A student interested in confirming their membership must take responsibility and begin to listen or look for this important announcement about a week after report cards are distributed.
8. What if my name is not on the list but I think I am eligible?
You must fill out a ‘Special Consideration’ form that is available on the librarian’s counter, in Mr. Reardon’s office in the rear lobby and in Mrs. Rich’s office on the 2nd floor.
9. How long are these forms available?
For the same four days the list is posted.
10. What do I do with this form?
You fill out the form and place the form in the orange and black box.
11. How will I know if my consideration has been accepted?
There will be a response form delivered to you in homeroom.
12. If I am absent more than one day in a row due to one illness, is this counted as more than one day absent?
No. For Renaissance membership only, this would be considered as one absence. For example, if you had the flu and were absent four days, Renaissance would consider this one absence towards your 2 allowed excused absences. Of course the four days absent would be recorded as 4 days on your attendance record.
13. Are field trips or college visits counted as absences?
No, they are school related activities.
14. What if I forget to check the list during the four day period, and after the list is taken down I find that my name is not on the list but I think it should be, but I did not fill out a ‘Special Consideration’ form?
You must wait until the next marking period for the process to begin again.
