What is
Renaissance? |
Renaissance is not a club. It is not an organization.
Renaissance is an opportunity for students within
the co-curricular program of Marple Newtown High School.
The purpose of Renaissance is
- to provide an opportunity for all students to be recognized and
rewarded for academic achievements, commendable attendance, and a
clean discipline record;
- to provide an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills;
- to recognize and celebrate the students, the faculty and the staff
of the high school; and
- to provide service to the school and community.

How
does a student become a member of Renaissance? |
Membership in Renaissance is open to all students every
marking period. Membership is determined by the immediate past marking
period performance. Members of Renaissance are expected to display highest
standards of moral conduct and personal integrity. Requirements are:
- No more than 2 excused absences per quarter (zero unexcused),
- No more than 2 excused latenesses per quarter (zero unexcused),
- No more than 3 early dismissals,
- No discipline referrals,
- No failures, and
- Minimum GPA of 80.00 for Orange Card, 90.00 for Black Card
- Emergency medical card is required to be on file in the nurse's office

What
are the privileges of belonging to Renaissance? |
Students who have earned the privilege of belonging
to Renaissance enjoy the following benefits:
- Participation in "Recognition Activities" (assemblies,
rallies, spring flings, trips)
- Reduced ticket prices at selected school events
- Discount to sponsoring businesses
- Study hall flexibility, 9—12 Library privileges
- For second semester Juniors and first and second semester Seniors Black Card members only
-- arrive late/leave early if period 1 or 10 is a study hall (with
parent permission on file).
