There are so many wonderful children's authors and illustrators! Not only will your child enjoy the books you read to him or her, so will you. Select a grade level:

Kindergarten

Mother Goose: Does your child know Little Miss Muffet? Peter Piper? Little Boy Blue? If not, check out a book of Mother Goose rhymes from your public library. Many books for older children require a knowledge of these rhymes in order to understand the humor.
Folktales: Children also need a good background in folktales, and not just the Disney versions! Check out the Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Pea, Rumplestiltskin, Rapunzel, The Brave Little Tailor, Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears and others.
