The Bullying Prevention Program At Paxon Hollow Middle School

The Bullying Prevention Program includes school-wide and classroom-level activity, individual interventions with bullies and victims, and community involvement. This violence prevention program combines the effort of all school staff (including teachers, principals, guidance counselors, cafeteria workers custodians, bus drivers, etc.) as well as students, parents and other members of the community to reduce bullying and other violent behavior. PHMS’s program includes:

  • Establishing a Bullying Prevention Committee of teachers, staff and parents
  • Training of all staff
  • Administering the Bully/Victim survey to determine when and where bullying occurs at school and increasing supervision as needed
  • Establishing school-wide rules and applying consistent sanctions against bullying
  • Rewarding children for pro-social behaviors
  • Holding regular classroom meetings to discuss bullying and other behavioral issues
  • Holding school-wide student and parent assemblies
  • Identifying bullies and victims of bullying in order to address their individual needs
  • Involving parents and communities in the school’s efforts

What Can Parent's Do?

Become involved and advocate for the implementation of bullying prevention activities, such as this program. Attend meetings to learn more about this program. Ask questions and discuss ways of making PHMS and your community safe and healthy places for children.

Talk frequently with your children about problems associated with bullying, your child's experience with bullying (as a victim, bully or bystander) and the efforts of his or her school to reduce bullying.
