Reach Out and Read! For the month of April, Russell Elementary School celebrated character trait was self-discipline. The school wide project for the month was to donate used children’s books to a program called Reach Out and Read. The Reach Out and Read program is run out of Children’s Hospital. The books are placed in the hospital’s clinic offices in North and South Philadelphia as well in Burlington, NJ. When children from low income families attend doctor’s visits, the nurse practitioners encourage their parents to read to them in the waiting rooms. Kirsten Rodger, the coordinator of the program, visited Russell School on Friday, April 25th and personally accepted out donation of 1,071 books.
