  Minutes of Russell PTO MEETING  March 12, 2008

Called to Order by Macaira Koch at  7:10 PM
Number of Attendees: 19

Principal’s Report:

  • Mrs. Smith welcomed three teachers this month: Mrs. Gerhard, Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Polonsky.
  • The PSSA’s are almost done!  The kids are working really hard and the parents took the suggestion of getting a good night’s sleep and having a good breakfast seriously.
  • The District wide budget is being set.  The requests for both an additional 4th grade teacher and an additional Kindergarten teacher are being discussed.
  • The Clubs are a fantastic success for 1st through 5th grades!  Many staff members have noted a marked decrease in trouble on the playground as well as great advances for some students in social skills.  The activities, structured and free play, are all enjoyed by the children.

 Teacher’s Reports:

  • Mrs. Selig is asking for help hanging artwork on April 30th, 12:30PM – 4:00PM for the Evening of the Arts.
  • The teachers thank the parents for their help during the PSSA’s.
  • Mrs. Polonsky will be starting an Alex’s Lemonade stand in the cafeteria during lunch.  They are requesting donations of canisters of powdered lemonade and paper cups.

President’s & VP’s Reports: Macaira Koch

  • Macaira attended the Tiger Gala Recap meeting.  It made less money than last year.  How to redefine or reorganize the event for next year was discussed at that meeting.
  • The open positions for next year’s PTO are:
    • Treasurer
    • Brick Sales
    • Fun Fair Coordinator
    • Photographer for monthly Character Awards
    • Lobby Decorator

Treasurer’s Report: Kerry Levy

  • Nothing to report. 

New Business

  • Pizza Bingo will be held on April 25th.
  • MN Evening of the Arts will be on May 7th.
  • The PTO End Of The Year Party will be held on May 9th, at Charlotte’s Restaurant in Newtown Square.  Price is $20 per person with a cash bar.
  • The Walking Club will end with a Luau in late May.
  • School Pictures – There have been continuing complaints about the quality of photos.  Finding a new company was discussed.
  • Field Day, organized by Miss Miller, Will be held on May 16th.
  • Teacher Appreciation – Christine Pancoast is working on a theme and budget.
  • Fifth Grade Activities - There has been much discussion about whether to or how to combine 5th Grade Activities back into the PTO Fundraising Committee.  How to handle funds and whether that group should be a part of the Executive Board or a sub-committee of Fundraising was discussed.
