2018 AP Science Summer Institute Participants 30 Students Attend AP Science Summer Institute at MNHS!

On Tuesday, July 17, 30 students enrolled in either AP Biology or AP Environmental Science participated in the first AP Science Summer Institute at MNHS.  Students used their epidemiology skills to discover the identity of Patient Zero in an Ebola outbreak activity. This task required analyzing data from Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; working collaboratively to describe how Vibrio cholerae, a bacterial agent of cholerachanges as water quality improves; modeling concepts of island biogeography and heterozygote advantage; and practicing their free-response question writing skills.  The positive experience provided Mrs. Landes (AP Environmental Science Teacher) and Mrs. Roy (AP Biology Teacher) with an overwhelming excitment to continue working with their AP Science students in September!

News at MNSD

At the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on June 26, 2018, the Marple Newtown Board of School Directors approved the 2018-2019 General Operating Budget.  This budget included funds for enhancing the district safety and security initiatives with the creation of two  positions.  The new Director of School Safety will be a professionally trained individual who will strengthen district security systems and manage the district safety programs, as well as, security personnel.  This individual, along with the newly created police officer position, will provide an increased level of security presence and response to the existing security team.   The addition of these new personnel in the area of security  are the first of several steps being taken by the district to improve the overall safety of the school district...
