Worrall Elementary School Turns 50! Worrall Elementary School in the Marple Newtown School District will celebrate a milestone in 2007 – its 50th year providing educational excellence to the Broomall and Newtown Square communities. To mark the anniversary, former Worrall students are invited to submit their favorite memories and stories to the school as part of keepsake memorabilia being collected for the occasion. Photos are also welcome and should be accompanied with a self-addressed, stamped envelope if owners would like them returned. Submissions may be mailed directly to the school at the address noted above or they may be emailed to cnetter@mnsd.org .

The Worrall community thanks former students and others in the community whose efforts will help mark this important milestone in education for children in the Marple Newtown community:

"I was looking at your section on your 50th anniversary and I could not help thinking back to 1980 when Worrall gave me a start to a long teaching career.  I was a reading practium student at the time from West Chester and I worked with Bob Smyrl, a sixth grade teacher at the school.  The experience inspired me so much that I stayed most of the day to help out in the classroom.  From that early experience almost 30 years ago,  I was inspired to be a teacher.  This is now my 27th year as a teacher in Downingtown School District.  I have since dedicated my career to gifted education, published a book, and became a department head in our system.
I would love to know whatever happened to Bob and I wish I could contact him to tell him my life story.  Teachers need to hear good things.  He gave me the confidence to teach."

"Hello..My name is Mike Traynor..I live in Charlotte, NC now..moved here in 1998..My mom still lives in Delco area..she moved from Broomall to Media a few years ago...I only went to Worrall for Kindergarten in 65/66..then I went to St Anastasia and Cardinal O'Hara..My teacher was Miss or Mrs Morrison and my best friend was in my class.. Billy Hart who died in 1978, way too early...    I recognize Susan Gonzales who was in St, Anastasia and Linda Luke who painted a picture (much later on : ) that I have hanging in my house right now..my mom gave it to me..Linda is married now and I am happy to have the picture even though I probably have not seen her or talked to her since 1966.. hope this brings back good memories for some old classmates ~~ Mike Traynor

"After reading what other students said about Worrall I was brought back in time to my favorite elementary memories -- Worrall is the one place I can say I've spent the most of my life... litterally six years of my life in one building...

Growing learning and making friends. These memories are just a few that I can recall that will stay with me forever

The sad day he left Worrall

"Hi,  I attended Worrall School from kindergarten to 6th grade. I walked or rode my bike (without a helmet!), usually arriving early to play on the playground or get in a quick game of kickball. Mr. Dave Paxson was the
coolest principal. Mr. Jim Turner was the best gym teacher that I ever had throughout my school years. Being a major tomboy, he allowed me to do anything the boys were doing. I have many fond memories of teachers, including Mrs. Britton, who recently passed away. Miss Drummond, now Mrs. Christie was my favorite. She would allow the older students to come back to her classroom and grade tests and help her with other projects. My seven years at Worrall were filled with good, lasting memories. ~~
Sincerely, Sue Franklin Welsh  1969-1975"
