March 2019 Update:
Second-round interviews for the MNSD Superintendent position were conducted in early March. Two of the four candidates who interviewed are sitting superintendents, and the other two candidates are current assistant superintendents. Next steps in the selection process are currently under discussion, as well as which candidates may become finalists for the position.
February 2019 Update:
In total, twenty-eight formal applications were received for the MNSD Superintendent of Schools vacancy. During the initial screening, only applicants who are current sitting superintendents or assistant superintendents, with the exception of one candidate, were extended a first-round interview. The initial pool of candidates was also narrowed down to candidates who are currently serving in Pennsylvania public schools.
During the week of February 4, 2019, all members of the Marple Newtown School District Board of Directors conducted first-round interviews of seven candidates for the superintendent vacancy.
Second-round interviews will be conducted for a select number of candidates during the month of March.
Dear MNSD Parents, Students, Staff and Community,
Though the task of replacing a superintendent of schools is a challenging one, the Board of School Directors is pleased to announce that the search for the next superintendent is under way, and we have adhered to the projected timeline as noted below. During the month of October, the District solicited input from students, staff, parents and community members via an online survey.
Superintendent Search – Provisional Timeline

- Arrange and conduct interviews with selected candidates
- Board approval of new Superintendent
- New Superintendent of schools target start date is July 1, 2019
To date, we have received twenty-six (26) formal applications for the Superintendent of Schools vacancy. The break-down of applicants is noted below:
11 applicants from out-of-state; 8 applicants from Pennsylvania who are sitting superintendents or assistant superintendents; 7 applicants from Pennsylvania who have their letter of eligibility, but no superintendent experience
The Board aims to have the search process completed by late spring, in the hopes that the newly appointed superintendent can begin on or as close to July 1, 2019 as possible.
